- Ensure a process is in place that ensures all employees are provided with all information and communication supports necessary to perform his/her job in accessible formats, if requested. Also included is all information generally available to all employees, including Intranet access and accessibility.
- Provide all corporate communications and organizational announcements and events in a variety of accessible formats.
- Have a mentorship or buddy program in place, and new employees are assigned a mentor and/or buddy upon hiring.
- Ensure trainers and coaches in our organization have had extensive training on supporting employees with developmental disabilities and autism and developing materials in alternative formats such as Braille, plain language, accessible pdf files, accessible on-line training, close captioning for all training videos, large print.
- Extend the probationary period for an employee with disability providing they have excellent motivation, excellent attendance, great attitude, but just require some additional coaching and time to hit optimal targets for performance.
- Meet regularly with new employees with disabilities to ensure their accommodations and needs in the workplace are being fully met and that they fully understand their priorities and areas for improvement.
- Provide additional coaching, if required, for new employees with disabilities.
- Be open to external Job Coaches provided by external service provider agencies to fully support new employees with disabilities.
